2-History

They are not listed in the statement, but the cats were undoubtedly among the passengers and crew of ships disembarking from the Mayflower when they arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1620.

European settlers brought them with them to North America, including the ancestors of what we now refer to as "American Short Hair."

The ancestors of this European breed made a journey to the New World thanks to their love of hunting and rodent hunting - a characteristic given to cargo ships that carried mice as they were in the homes and barns of the country's inhabitants.

Farmers, store owners, and homeowners need a good quality cat to protect their food stores from mice, rats, and other insects. Short hair was a solid and sturdy stock to work with, and well suited to the challenging conditions that reigned on the untamed continent.

Once in America, these cats began to breed, and over time they developed the traits that distinguish them as true American cats. Due to their prized personalities, they grew up (and still are) drawn from Americans in an effort to preserve and spread their beloved traits.

It was shown at the first cat fair in the United States. The Cat Fanciers' Association recognized it as a breed in 1906. To distinguish it from random-breed cats, also known as short-haired domestic cats, the American Shorthair cat was named in 1966. Cats have been recognized by all records.

3-Personality

These lovely cats are happy and playful pets but have independent personalities. Moderately active and has a good playing time but doesn't demand much attention.

As befits a working-class cat, he is smart and enjoys playing puzzle games and interactive games.
He has a social nature and is not the type to hide under the bed when visitors arrive.
This is a quiet cat but does not like being especially carried. Let him stand on all fours.

He may or may not be a cuddling cat, but he will always appreciate having a spot by your side on the sofa or at the end of the bed.

Physically, the American Shorthair is a healthy cat with a long life (15 years or more).
The American Shorthair is endowed with a great deal of strength - a trait that was created during several years of hunting rodents onboard cargo ships.

Perhaps the most notable feature of the breed is its flat, round face, similar to the Persian cats.

As for their coats, the American cat has thick fur that gets thicker in the winter and can be found in over 80 different combinations of colors and patterns.

4-Health

Both purebred cats and mixed cats have varying states of health problems that may be hereditary in nature.
American Shorthairs are generally healthy, as evidenced by the long life they live.

However, the breed is prone to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), which is a common form of heart disease that affects many different cat breeds. But it is not yet known to be hereditary.

It is not completely preventable. If you purchased American Shorthair from a breeder, make sure both parents have been specifically checked for HCM.

5-Diet and nutrition

American Shorthair is a hardy cat that requires strict food control to ensure that it does not gain weight.

Although it has a long life and can live healthy for up to 20 years, this is based on a high-quality diet that provides sufficient energy for its muscular tissue without causing excessive weight gain.

If you are concerned about how to properly feed your cat. Consult your veterinarian for proper feeding advice.
